HANNOVER (16.02.08)

1. Ruined church that has no roof 2. me in front of the state house 3. At the frozen lake 4. the river gods 5. the famous sculpture at hannover 6. Home-cooked lunch by Lena
Went to Hannover on Saturday with Edmund and Ee Koon (tobacco trainee flavorist from Singapore). Dirk Schrader who came to Singapore last year where we had entertained him by bringing him out, now in turn this time round bought us a train ticket to Hannover. It’s a group ticket for 5 person for 37€ and since only the 2 of us can make it we asked if Ee Koon wanted to join us. The rest of the trainees went to another city for holiday.
Cycled to the train station and parked our bicycle there. Took a one and a half hour train to Hannover. It’s a much bigger place. There is shopping area from the start of the train station. But still the shopping area doesn’t really interest me. The things are expensive and the brand seems foreign to me.
We went sightseeing by following the red thread painted on the floor. Following the red thread will lead you to the various attractions in Hannover. The buildings are really nice, you don’t get to see such nice building in Singapore. Spent about 3 to 4 hours walking thru’ the red thread, of cos with break in between. The state house is a interesting place with models showing how hannover started off being a really small city (1st model) then it got bigger (2nd model). Then came bombing and buildings were ruined (3rd model). Followed by the current hannover (4th model). There was this church on the model and we saw the real building too… which has no roof because it was bombed and destroyed and was never rebuild. It is known as the ruined church.
The amazing thing abt hannover is the toilet. Went to the first toilet and saw people tipping… Ooo… I must say that you really earn a lot being a toilet cleaner in Germany. Haa… Wanted to go to another toilet the second time and to my SHOCK… it cost 1.10€ to enter. That’s totally crazy. I then decided to find macdonald’s and went to the toilet in there.
Anyway, Hannover is definitely much better than Holzminden. Being one week in Holzminden seems to be one month away from home because it is really so boring and all the TV program is in german except CNN and BBC.
* I lost my thermoflask in hannover
